Kristin Long, MD, is a UW Health surgeon and an associate professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Endocrine Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.Dr. Long specializes in treating both benign and malignant (cancerous) diseases of the endocrine system. This network of glands and organs produces and releases hormones and includes the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands.Dr. Long has a special interest in surgical treatment of thyroid cancer, parathyroid disease and hereditary endocrine syndromes.She is also interested in global surgery and improving access to specialized care for patients with unique endocrine disorders. Dr. Long conducts research on endocrine surgery and building global surgical capacity. She spends time operating and working in Sub-Saharan Africa and other resource-limited settings. Dr. Long collaborates with local health care providers to increase surgical care availability.Outside of work, she enjoys traveling internationally, attending concerts, learning to play the guitar and working with special needs animal rescues.Every person is unique and there’s a lot of patient-centered decision-making that goes into trying to find the right fit for the right person at the right time.
