
Overview
Ian Kronish, MD, MPH, is a general internist and Florence Irving Associate Professor of Medicine. After attending Harvard Medical School, Dr. Kronish completed his residency and fellowship in internal medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he also completed a Master’s in Public Health at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. In 2011, he moved to CUMC, where his clinical practice is in the Associates of Internal Medicine. He is Associate Director of the Center for Behavioral Cardiovascular Health and Co-Director of the Hypertension Center at CUIMC.Dr. Kronish’s research has shown why those at greatest risk for recurrent cardiovascular events are least likely to adhere to prescribed regimens, and that patients’ distress about past and future cardiovascular events undermines health behaviors. As Director of an NIA-funded Roybal Center, he now aims to foster the development of interventions that improve mental health, adherence to recommended health behaviors, and cardiovascular outcomes in patients that have experienced acute cardiovascular events such as acute coronary syndrome and stroke. He has expertise in medication adherence, and has advanced methodologies for adherence measurement. He has been the PI of multiple federally-funded randomized clinical trials. He also has experience in implementation science research, and applies these methods to increase the uptake of evidence-based hypertension guidelines. He is a founding member of New York Presbyterian Hospital’s Digital Health Evaluation initiative, and has led the implementation of remote monitoring programs for hypertension and COVID-19.

Mathew S. Maurer, MD - Dr. Maurer is a general internist and geriatric cardiologist with advanced training in heart failure and cardiac transplantation. He is the Arnold and Arlene Goldstein Professor of Cardiology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons, where directs the Clinical Cardiovascular Research Laboratory for the Elderly (CCRLE). Dr. Maurer is a member of the Advanced Cardiac Care Center at NewYork Presbyterian Hospital – Columbia Campus. He is the Director of the Cardiac Amyloidosis Program. He has published over 300 articles including peer reviewed manuscripts, reviews and book chapters. He was Chair of the American College of Cardiology’s Geriatric Cardiology Member Section, which is the largest organization dedicated to advancing the care of older adults with cardiovascular disease. He was co-chair of the Steering Committee of the ATTR-ACT trial showing tafamidis was a safe and effective therapy for transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy. Throughout his career, he has promulgated an approach to older adults with cardiovascular disease that offers the best of both geriatric and cardiovascular medicine in which a comprehensive holistic approach to enhance functional capacity and quality of life is at the forefront of emerging techniques to address cardiovascular physiologic derangement that disproportionately afflict older adults. Dr. Hershman has published over 450 scientific articles and has received several awards including the highly prestigious Advanced Clinical Research Award in Breast Cancer from the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Advanced Medical Achievement Award from the Avon Foundation and a Giants in Cancer Care Award.She has several national leadership roles in oncology. As vice chair of the SWOG Cancer Research Network she oversees the NCI's Community Oncology Research Programs (NCORP) research portfolio, which includes prevention and epidemiology, cancer care delivery, symptom control and quality of life, and survivorship trials. Within ASCO she was selected to participate in the first Leadership Development Program and has been the Chair of the Grants Selection Committee, Chair of the ASCO Quality Care Symposium and has been a member of multiple committees and task-forces. She is on the editorial board for the Journal of Clinical Oncology and is an Associate Editor at the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
