Jaime Andres Suarez Londono, MD, MBA, MS, is the associate director of the adult transplantation and cellular therapy program at Northwell Cancer Institute. After completing medical school in Medellin, Colombia, Dr. Londono did a residency at Columbia University's St Luke's Roosevelt Hospital and a fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He then spent eight years as an assistant professor at NYU Langone's Perlmutter Cancer Center, where he held several leadership roles in the NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine, and in the stem cell transplant programI was inspired to study hematology, oncology and transplantation because advances in the field are bringing new hope and transforming the lives of our patients in a positive way, says Dr. Londono, who believes that the future of cancer treatment lies in personalized medicine approaches, such as immunotherapy and genetic therapy.Dr. Londono joined Northwell Cancer Institute to continue his research on improving outcomes and expanding access to life saving stem cell transplants and cellular therapies. My goal is to advance the field so we can overcome the challenges of limited donor compatibility and patient eligibility, ensuring more people benefit from transformative treatments, he says.Dr. Londono and his team have authored more than a dozen scientific papers, and his current work is gaining international recognition. Beyond research, he is passionate about public outreach through the American Society of Hematology, serving as co- director of the of Health Volunteers Overseas LATAM. He was honored with the Golden Apple Award from the American Society of Hematology's Health Volunteers Overseas program in recognition of his contributions to global health.Dr. Londono is the founder of a startup dedicated to alleviating physician shortages in the United States. With an eye toward the future, Dr. Londono recently earned an MBA and an MS in Healthcare Leadership from Cornell University. I wanted to study the global healthcare landscape how medicine is delivered in different countries, what lessons we can learn, and the nuances of biotech companies and market dynamics, he explains.Outside of medicine, Dr. Londono pursues his passion for cuisine by taking classes at the American Culinary Institute. Yet his most rewarding moments come at the bedside. My patients are truly 'patient' often spending three or four weeks in the hospital. It's incredibly inspiring to witness their resilience, commitment, and humility. They are the reason I work so hard.
