Dr. Lesly A. Dossett

Dr. Lesly Dossett, MD, MPH, is the Maud T. Lane Research Professor for Cancer Quality Improvement and Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Michigan. Dr. Dossett earned her medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 2003, having attended on a United States Navy Health Professions Scholarship. She completed her general surgery residency at Vanderbilt University in 2010, which included a health services research fellowship and completion of an MPH. After residency, Dr. Dossett served on active duty with the United States Navy in several roles stateside and overseas, including completing two deployments supporting combat operations in Afghanistan. After leaving the Navy in 2014, Dr. Dossett completed a clinical fellowship in Complex General Surgical Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center and joined the faculty of the University of Michigan in 2016.Dr. Dossett specializes in treating patients with melanoma, soft tissue sarcoma, and breast cancer. Her research leverages implementation science frameworks and behavioral strategies to improve healthcare value. As co-director of the Michigan Program for Value Enhancement (MPrOVE), she works to translate value-based research findings into practice at Michigan Medicine and then scale those strategies more broadly to hospitals and healthcare systems. She is a principal investigator for R01s funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). She serves as a mentor on several federally funded training grants and career development awards.Dr. Dossett is an active member of several national societies. She serves as an officer in the Association for Academic Surgeons (AAS) and in the executive leadership of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Cancer Research Program (CRP) and the Surgical Outcomes Club.Clinical Specialization:Dr. Dossett’s clinical focus is on melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers, sarcoma, and breast cancer. She has expertise in locally and regionally advanced melanoma, breast angiosarcoma, retroperitoneal and pelvic sarcoma, breast conservation therapy, and skin and nipple sparing mastectomy.
