Mae Tietje cares – deeply – about the health and well-being of her patients. It is not what she does. It is who she is. “You learn so much from your patients, and I’m so happy to see people get better,” says Tietje, MSN, APN, AGNP-C. “To know that I have the ability to be part of their wellness journey is very gratifying.” As an adult gerontology nurse practitioner with AtlantiCare Physician Group, Primary Care Plus, Tietje cares for patients at all stages of adulthood. Drawing on her experience as a nurse she believes that every patient is unique and should be treated as such in order to achieve the best outcomes. Tietje was inspired to enter healthcare by her mother, an AtlantiCare nurse. She earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Rutgers University and her master of science in nursing with a specialization in adult gerontology nurse practitioner from Stockton University. Tietje pursued her APN as a way to have a greater influence on the health of her patients. Her diverse experience caring for cardiac, vascular, surgical, stroke, psychiatric and substance use disorder patients has prepared her to address the individual needs of her patients. “As a Nurse Practitioner you can establish patient relationships and build a rapport over time, taking care of them holistically and getting to know them not just medically but as a person,” she says. “I am very happy and motivated when I see progress in my patients’ health or when I see them make recovery towards an optimal point of health.” Born and raised in southern New Jersey, Tietje has a broad range of interests including watercolor painting, travel and visiting museums. An avid exerciser, she enjoys yoga, biking and visiting the gym. She has trained in several martial arts for many years.
