During awake brain surgery Dr. Dey uses imaging tools to work around and minimize impacts on areas of the brain that are critical for key body functions.Connecting with others is what drew Dr. Dey to a career in medicine. She enjoys getting to know people at a personal level and takes pride in treating patients as she would her own family.Dr. Dey also serves as an associate professor of neurological surgery and director of the surgical neuro-oncology program at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She leads an active research program and is funded by the National Institutes of Health to develop specialized treatments, including vaccine-based therapies for malignant brain tumors.In her spare time, Dr. Dey enjoys painting, cooking, scuba diving and spending time with family.A brain tumor diagnosis changes your life. He has published over 230 scientific papers, over 50 book chapters, and he is a co-author of two books: Vestibular Schwannoma Surgery: A Video Guide, and Complex Surgeries of the Limbic System.His national and international leadership roles include being appointed to the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies Cerebrovascular Surgery Committee, serving as Chair of the Subcommittee for the Cerebrovascular Research Award (of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS)/ Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) Joint Section), and past chair of the International Division of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
