Dr. Hummel is the Director for Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection (HFpEF) program at the Frankel Cardiovascular Center. The HFpEF clinical program incorporates multi-domain assessment and management, with the goals of improving quality of life and long-term outcomes while uncovering and treating the underlying causes of this complex syndrome. The Michigan Medicine HFpEF program also offers access to groundbreaking clinical trials which incorporate interventions ranging from dietary support and medications to implantable cardiac devices for HFpEF. In addition to industry-sponsored trials, Dr. Hummel’s own research has been funded by the NHLBI, NIA, AHRQ, and the VA. This work aims to understand the impact of diet on HFpEF development and progression, and to facilitate healthy eating through technological innovation. As part of the American College of Cardiology’s Geriatric Cardiology leadership council, Dr. Hummel also studies the importance of geriatric domains, such as malnutrition, frailty, and polypharmacy, in heart failure assessment and management. Dr. Hummel is highly rated in 12 conditions, according to our data. His clinical expertise encompasses Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF), Heart Failure, Pulmonary Edema, Heart Transplant, and Cardiac Ablation.
