"Dr. Gessner received his Bachelor of Science degree from Towson University, and earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed an internal medicine internship and residency at Johns Hopkins University, followed by a Fellowship in Gastroenterology at Duke University. Dr. Gessner is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology and a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. He is a member of the American Gastroenterology Association and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Gessner is on the active medical staff of Riverside Regional Medical Center and has been selected as a ""Top Doc"" by Hampton Roads Magazine. Dr. Gessner's special medical interests include the diagnosis and treatment of conditions related to the digestive system, including the esophagus, stomach, colon, liver, gallbladder and pancreas. He routinely performs colonoscopies, endoscopies and other advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.".
