Dr. John C. Byrn

Scott Regenbogen, MD, MPH is a Professor of Surgery and Division Chief of Colorectal Surgery. He graduated from Princeton University with an A.B. in psychology, and received his M.D. degree from the University of California, San Francisco. He completed General Surgery residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital, including three years as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Health Services Research, and was awarded a Master’s in Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. He then completed fellowship training in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Lahey Clinic, and joined the faculty of the University of Michigan in 2011.Clinical SpecializationDr. Regenbogen's clinical practice includes the evaluation and management of benign and neoplastic diseases of the small bowel, colon, rectum, and anus. He has a particular interest in the use of laparoscopic techniques for the management of colorectal cancer, diverticular disease and inflammatory bowel disease. Dana A. Telem, MD, MPH, is the Section Head of General Surgery, the Associate Chair for Quality and Patient Safety, and the Lazar J. Greenfield Professor of Surgery. Dr. Telem completed her surgical training at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York and her fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Telem also completed a Master’s in Public Health in the Executive Master’s of Healthcare Management program at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.She serves on the editorial boards of Annals of Surgery and Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases, is a Subject Editor for Surgical Endoscopy and a Section Editor for Hernia. Her research and commentaries have been published in several prominent journals such as the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and Annals of Surgery. She serves on the SAGES and Foundation for Surgical Fellowships Board of Governors, and holds key leadership positions across several organizations and societies focused on quality and patient safety, as well as diversity and inclusion.Clinical Specialization:Her clinical practice is devoted to minimally invasive therapies focused on hernia, benign diseases of the esophagus and morbid obesity. Dr. Michael McGee is Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Colorectal Surgery at the University of Michigan. Prior to obtaining his medical degree at Drexel University, he was trained as a mechanical engineer. After completing general surgery training at Case Western Reserve University, Dr. McGee completed colorectal surgery fellowship at Cleveland Clinic. While at Case Western, Dr. McGee completed the Dudley P. Allen Scholarship dedicated to clinical research in minimally invasive surgery and surgical endoscopy. Dr. McGee was recruited to Northwestern University where he practiced for 11 years and held several system-wide administrative roles for Northwestern Medicine before joining the University of Michigan in 2022. Dr. McGee’s clinical interests include complex re-operative abdominal surgery, minimally invasive colorectal surgery, surgical endoscopy, and anorectal surgery for cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. He served as co-director of the 50+ hospital Illinois Surgical Quality Improvement Collaborative (ISQIC) where he led day-to-day operations and statewide quality improvement projects for thousands of surgical patients in Illinois. Dr. McGee’s research interests include surgical quality improvement, implementation science, and patient education. He is an active member of several national surgical organizations, multiple editorial boards, and has authored over fifty publications and received multiple grants and awards for research, teaching, and humanism.
