Dr. Steven Kindsvater

As a board-certified interventional cardiologist, Dr. Banerjee is internationally recognized for his expertise in minimally invasive treatments of coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease and transcatheter aortic valve replacement. He is currently serving as the Paul J. Thomas Endowed Chair in Cardiology and chief of cardiovascular research and innovation for Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Services-Dallas. Dr. Banerjee is the editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Cardiology, one of the premier cardiology journals in the world. He also serves as one of the founding directors of the Cardiovascular Innovations Foundation. He has led many landmark clinical trials, published over 450 peer-reviewed manuscripts, and is an invited faculty at national and international cardiovascular conferences. Dr. James Choi has been caring for Texas hearts since 2004. He is fellowship-trained in interventional cardiology. He is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, nuclear cardiology and interventional cardiology. Dr. Choi's areas of clinical interest and focus include cardiovascular disease in diabetic patients; highly complex cardiology interventions: left main coronary artery and chronic total occlusions; valvular heart interventions; structural heart interventions: ASD/PFO/Left atrial appendage closure; and peripheral vascular disease. He has published numerous articles and conducted clinical research on coronary stent implantation and chronic total occlusions as well as novel renal artery denervation treatment for resistant hypertension.Dr. Choi earned his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, where he also completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowships in cardiology and interventional cardiology. He is the current medical director of Coronary, Renal and Structural Heart Technologies for the Baylor Research Institute in Dallas. He previously served as an associate professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine in College Station and as the director of the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.Dr. Choi is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions. He currently chairs the DFW AngioClub and is a member of the American Heart Association, Texas Medical Association and Dallas County Medical Association. Dr. Choi has sat on numerous advisory boards, completed clinical research into various devices and cardiovascular procedures, and is active in the Korean-American medical community. Dr. Szerlip received her medical degree and completed her residency at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was a Major in the US Army where she was Vice Chief of the Internal Medicine Clinic at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia. She completed her fellowship in cardiology at Medical College of Georgia and her interventional cardiology fellowship at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. Dr. Szerlip joined the Baylor Scott and White Heart Hospital in Plano in 2013. She is the Medical Director of the Percutaneous Valve Program, which oversees both the large TAVR program as well as the percutaneous mitral and tricuspid programs. She helped start and grow the Structural Heart Fellowship Program in 2015 and in 2019 she helped develop and became the Program Director for the newly formed Cardiology Fellowship. She will also oversee the Interventional, EP and Heart failure sub-specialties. Prior to arriving at the Heart Hospital, she was faculty at the University of Arizona. Dr. Szerlip helped develop the structural heart program which was highlighted by the first percutaneous aortic valve program in Tucson. She was also Director of the Coronary Hybrid Revascularization program where she worked closely with the cardiothoracic surgeons in the combination of stenting the coronaries and robotic bypass. At the University of Arizona she developed her expertise in structural heart disease, which has led her to lecture nationally and internationally at major meetings and to become a rising figurehead in major studies pertaining to percutaneous valve treatments. In 2015, Dr. Szerlip was chosen by The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) to participate in the Emerging Leader Mentorship (ELM) Program. As a member of this highly select group of physicians, Dr. Szerlip participated in a two-year mentorship program designed to further develop her skills as a leader in medicine, ambassador for her specialty, and advocate for her patients.  She is currently the Chairmen of SCAI publication committee and is a member of the SCAI Board of trustees. Her specialty and interests in interventional cardiology include structural heart disease, complex coronary disease and cardiogenic shock.
