Overview

Dr. Benjamin is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and specializes in cranial neurosurgery, with a particular interest in open and endoscopic skull base surgery. She completed her neurosurgery residency at New York University in Manhattan under the chairmanship of Dr.John Golfinos. She then completed a fellowship in skull base surgery with Dr.Chandrananth Sen as well as a radiosurgery fellowship with Dr. Douglas Kondziolka at NYU. She joined the faculty at University of Miami in September 2019. Dr.Benjamin treats all areas of neuro-oncology, including primary brain tumors as well as brain metastases. She also treats all aspects of skull base tumors, including pituitary tumors, meningiomas, schwannomas, acoustic neuromas, chordomas, chondrosarcomas, craniopharyngiomas, and carcinomas. She treats skulls base pathology using both open approaches as well as using the endoscopic endonasal and expanded endonasal approaches. This includes open and endoscopic treatment of skull base defects leading to cerebrospinal fluid leak. She also treats facial pain (trigeminal neuralgia) and facial spasms (hemifacial spasm) with microvascular decompression surgery. She has an active radiosurgery practice, treating a variety of pathologies including brain metastases, skull base tumors (acoustic neuromas, schwannomas, meningiomas, pituitary tumors, paragangliomas), vascular malformations, and trigeminal and glossopharyngeal neuralgia. She also performs general neurosurgery including instrumented and non-instrumented spine surgeries. Dr.Benjamin is a member of various academic societies including the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and the North American Skull Base Society. Her research interests include microsurgical anatomical dissections and advanced neuroimaging to compare open and endonasal approaches to the skull base and the carotid artery. She is also interested in studying the molecular biology of skull base tumors (including meningiomas and chordomas) to help guide surgical management and post operative adjuvant therapy. Finally, her current clinical research into stereotactic radiosurgery spans many conditions, including benign and malignant tumors, vascular malformations, and functional disorders.
