
Overview
Dr. Richard Kim was born in New York and received his B.S. in biology and psychology at Georgetown University in 1983. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1987. Dr. Kim completed his residency in Internal Medicine and his specialty training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he later served as chief Fellow. Following his training, Dr. Kim remained an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University. During his faculty tenure at the University, Dr. Kim was named the Chief of Endoscopy and later the Associate Chief of the GI section at the University Drive VA Medical Center. Through a grant from the NIH, Dr. Kim completed his Master of Public Health degree in Epidemiology in 1997 from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. His career has been distinguished by awards for excellence in clinical research by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Gastroenterology, and the Glaxo Institute for Digestive Health. Dr. Kim was President of the Medical Staff at Heritage Valley Health System Sewickley Campus from 2010-2012. Dr. Kim served on the Board of Directors of Heritage Valley Health System from 2012 to 2021.
Dr. Kim is a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine, certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is an active member of the American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the Pennsylvania Medical Society. Dr. Kim specializes in esophageal disorders, gastroesophageal reflux disease, cancer of the GI tract, and Therapeutic Endoscopy, including ERCP. He is active on the staff of Heritage Valley Health System Sewickley Campus, Heritage Valley Health System Kennedy Campus (formerly Ohio Valley General Hospital), and Three Rivers Endoscopy Center. He is a participating physician in Pennsylvania Blue Shield and Medicare. His practice is limited to Gastroenterology.
