System Associate Director for Interventional Cardiology Executive Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories for Inova Co-Director of Complex Coronary Therapeutic Program Dr. Behnam N. Tehrani also serves as an assistant clinical professor of medicine at both George Washington University and the University of Virginia. He is involved in clinical trials and registries pertaining to complex coronary interventions, renal denervation, cardiogenic shock and pulmonary embolism. In line with Inova’s mission and values, Dr. Tehrani has dedicated his career to the development of team-based systems of care – bringing together specialists to collaborate on patient care, using innovative technologies coupled with research and a lifelong commitment to education and learning. He played a key role in creating Inova’s cardiogenic shock team, which has become a national leader in improving survival rates for this life-threatening condition. He also co-leads the team that performs advanced, technically complex catheter-based procedures for patients with severe coronary artery disease who are at elevated risk and often have limited treatment options. This includes procedures for chronic total occlusion, a complete blockage in the coronary arteries. Dr. Tehrani is also part of the team that introduced renal denervation services for treating resistant hypertension, as well as the rapid-response team for diagnosing and treating pulmonary embolism and the team that treats chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. Recognized nationally for his leadership, Dr. Tehrani serves on committees for both the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. He has co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, abstracts and book chapters, with his work published in top medical journals including Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC), JACC: Heart Failure, JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions, JAMA Cardiology, Circulation: Heart Failure, and Journal of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. He also contributes as a peer reviewer for Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, European Heart Journal, American Heart Journal, and Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions.
