Dr. Yan Y. Liu

Yan Liu, MD, PhD, FACC, is a board-certified cardiologist and cardio-oncologist at Ascension Texas Cardiovascular in Austin, Texas. He is also the director of cardio-oncology for Ascension Texas and an associate professor at Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin. He specializes in cardio-oncology, general cardiology, cardiovascular imaging, and vascular medicine. Dr. Liu has an expertise in treating chemotherapy induced cardiotoxicity, radiation heart disease, cardiovascular disease in cancer patients and survivors, immunotherapy induced heart disease, coronary artery and vascular disease, arrhythmias, heart failure, heart valve disease and more. Dr. Liu works with a multidisciplinary team of cancer specialists to deliver comprehensive, compassionate care for patients at any stage of their treatment and to help them achieve the best quality of life and overall outcome. Dr. Liu’s research is focused on the novel molecular pathways in cardiovascular disease and cancer, leading to innovative therapy and drug development in cardiovascular disease and cardio-oncology. He is the author of more than 40 peer-reviewed scientific papers and is an inventor on several patents that led to two clinical-stage biotech companies and an FDA-approved, guideline-recommended first-in-class chemoprotection drug. His research established p16INK4a as the key molecular mechanism linking cancer and heart disease, setting the molecular foundation for cardio-oncology as a novel clinical specialty.
