David C. Lew, MD, FACC, FSCAI, is a board-certified interventional cardiologist with Orlando Health Medical Group FHV Health. He introduced procedures such as coronary, angioplasty and cardiac stenting to northern Central Florida, providing sophisticated, advanced diagnosis and treatment of heart disease and other conditions to the area.What Is Interventional Cardiology?As an interventional cardiologist, Dr. Lew treats specific conditions affecting the heart valves and the circulatory system, such as blockages in the heart, lower extremities and carotid arteries. Many blockages can be treated using minimally invasive techniques, including angioplasty and stents, while more severe diseases may require bypass surgery.He and his team perform an array of procedures, including TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement), cardiac catheterizations and stenting, EVAR for abdominal aortic aneurysms, abdominal aortic aneurysms, and carotid artery stenting to prevent or alleviate strokes.Dr. Lew’s TrainingDr. Lew has a long history with the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he earned his medical degree there along with completing an internship and residency in internal medicine. Dr. Lew has also been active in clinical research and has served as local principal investigator in numerous trials including, but not limited to, NIH CREST, CAPTURE carotid stenting trials, and PAMI-No SOS. Presently, he is also the local principal investigator for the ongoing STAND critical limb ischemia trial, comparing balloon angioplasty versus a new novel stent.
