Dr. Patrick W. Fisher

Patrick Fisher, DO, PhD, FACC, is a board-certified cardiologist with Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute. He specializes in all aspects of general and invasive cardiology from prevention to diagnosis, treatment and management. He also specializes in the care of patients with advanced heart failure, pulmonary artery hypertension, heart transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support. Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation Advanced heart failure is a form of heart failure that has progressed to the most serious stage. Patients who reach this stage may choose a specialist like Dr. Fisher to assist in managing their complex cardiac care including all forms of heart failure and pulmonary artery hypertension as well as to help guide patients in determining if they are candidates for advanced heart failure therapies including but not limited to heart transplantation and or mechanical circulatory support. In addition, patients may choose a specialist like Dr. Fisher to care for them after heart transplantation or mechanical circulatory support therapy in coordination with their heart transplant/mechanical circulatory support team. Dr. Fisher’s Training Dr. Fisher earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has extensive postdoctoral training, including completing his residency in internal medicine at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago; a clinical cardiology fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond; and a postdoctoral scholar and clinical fellowship in advanced heart failure/heart transplantation at the Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto. He also holds a PhD in physiology from the Virginia Commonwealth University with a focus on prevention of chemotherapy-induced heart failure. About Dr. Fisher Dr. Fisher is a United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS)-certified transplant physician and active researcher and lecturer on a range of topics in cardiology. He was a member of the writing committee and co-author of the first guidelines for the care of post-operative heart transplant patients. He has served as principal investigator on many clinical trials and currently is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Cardiac Failure, the flagship journal of the Heart Failure Society of America. Dr. Fisher is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and certified in cardiovascular disease and advanced heart failure/heart transplant by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
