Dr. Laura C. Janes

For family practice physician Laura C. Janes, D.O., it’s important to do meaningful work. Dr. Janes joined AtlantiCare Primary Care Plus in August 2019. She is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and has over 20 years’ experience in family practice, most of it at the southern New Jersey seashore. A dual major at New York University, she had feet in two different worlds: psychology and economics. She pursued a career in finance after graduating. “I found the work not a right fit for me. I knew I wanted to impact lives through more meaningful work. Looking back, I think I always wanted a medical career, but was hesitant to pursue it, considering the large financial and time commitment,” she says. Driven to discover her true passion, she made the decision to pursue training in osteopathic medicine. Dr. Janes earned her medical degree from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she also completed her residency and internship. She diagnoses and treats the entire range of health issues in adults, with the knowledge and experience to know when to draw on the expertise of medical specialists. Family practice gives her the opportunity to explore the family dynamic, putting her background in psychology to good use. “It’s very fulfilling. And it’s a real privilege to treat multiple generations of the same family,” she says. She is uniquely qualified to understand family issues – a busy mother of three. “Living this life, in medical practice for 20 years, being a wife, mother, daughter and sister gives great insight to the issues every family experiences. Ideally, that has given me wisdom that I try to pass on. It can be a challenging balance, but an incredible blessing,” she says.
