Overview
As I approach 30 years in my oncology practice, nearly 30 years of helping patients through their cancer journey, I am reminded each and every day how much of a privilege it is to provide this care. The practice of oncology is so very different today compared to when I started my career. It has been so exciting to see all the new discoveries and treatment plans become available, and we are able to cure more patients than ever before. In situations where cure is currently not possible, we are able to help patients live longer and with a better quality of life than ever before. While the practice of oncology has changed in so many ways, there are many things that remain entirely the same. One is the tremendous impact that a cancer diagnosis has on a patient and their family. The diagnosis of cancer or the finding of recurrent cancer can be devastating to patients. This is never forgotten. Our patients who are on their cancer journey need to know and understand what to expect. Patients require a careful explanation of all the necessary information concerning the cancer problem and treatment options. Worry and anxiety melt away once a patient has a better understanding of what to expect and a clear management plan. I love teaching, and helping patients and their families get to this important understanding is critically important to me. I always take the time needed to provide this communication. I currently visit with patients that have all types of malignancies. I have specific interests in breast cancer, genitourinary malignancies, lung cancer, GI malignancies and lymphoma. I also endeavor to make certain that any state-of-the-art research protocols are considered if indicated. We are so fortunate to have the depth and breadth of cancer treatment protocols through our Cancer Research Center. Working with my cancer program leadership team and countless numbers of patients over the years, we have developed an amazing and unique cancer care process here at the Frauenshuh Cancer Center. Our care processes are designed to put our patients at the center of everything we do.
