Dr. Michael J. Luceri

I’m a proud father of two with two on the way. Being a dad has opened a new door in my life — it’s helped me realize even more how special children are and what family means. I enjoy spending time with family, doing anything outdoors and watching sports. I’m originally from the Bronx, but grew up in Florida and am a lifelong Florida Gators fan. When I was in high school, my older sister was diagnosed with a rare form of pediatric cancer. It required her to get specialized treatment. She at the time was 18 and was looked up to by all the other pediatric patients as a role model, and sometimes even as a babysitter. Her impact on those kids made me want to do something for kids, too. I’m passionate about making sure that children can still experience life as children regardless of their circumstances, location or sickness. I think it’s important to help kids maintain a sense of innocence and fun throughout the process of something as serious as open-heart surgery. I try to make a difference by actively listening to patients and families, offering continued support, having a willingness to research new therapies, and providing seamless communication with primary care providers. I think it’s very important to provide constant feedback and communication for families and involve them in decision-making.
